Laragh Heritage Group
A dedicated team of local volunteers...
Laragh Heritage Community Group was founded in September 2012 by a group of neighbours and friends of Laragh who were concerned for the fate of the Tin Church. A 2010 photograph of an overgrown, snow-blanketed St. Peter’s Church was the catalyst which started the conversation and eventually, the formation of the group. Seven neighbours turned up at the first meeting and the rest, as they say, is history.
Ten years later and our community group has gone from strength to strength. Over the decade the group have managed the Tin Church restoration project together. Funding for the project came via LEADER, PEACE IV, Department of Heritage & Culture and Failte Ireland – via Monaghan County Council. Match funding was raised locally with enthusiasm and vigour. Monthly meetings are held in Coleman’s and new members are always welcome and encouraged to part take.
There’s deep grá and pride amongst the community in Laragh for the Tin Church, which is open to the public every day from 10am-6pm.
