A community in Co Monaghan saved a “tin tabernacle” dating from 1890, and the church helped revive a sense of place and destination.
There is a beautiful tin church built on a rock in south Monaghan.
Seeking it out, following the sat nav up from Carrickmacross, a bend in the road brought me into a little woodland gorge. The landscape quickly switched from farmland to fairytale. It was like driving into Instagram — the corrugated walls, russet-red roof and cockerel-topped spire of the church popped out, perched on a rock by a trickling stream.
