The top five places to visit in County Monaghan – Irish Central

County Monaghan, aka The Farney County, might be the smallest county in Ulster, but it’s certainly played a significant part in Irish literary history, providing us with one of the country’s greatest poets, Patrick Kavanagh.

This border county was also the birthplace of actor Ardal O’Hanlon, most famous for his legendary character Father Dougal in the hit Irish TV show ‘Father Ted.’
